Mangalore, December 16: The Mother Express, an exhibition train to commemorate the birth centenary of Mother Teresa, arrived in Mangalore on Thursday, December 16.

The train was inaugurated at the Sealdah railway station by railway minister Mamata Banerjee on August 26. The “Mother Express,” launched as part of the centenary celebration of the nun by the Indian railways.


As soon as the Mother Express train arrived at the station at 10 am in the morning, Children from different schools  started flocking the Mangalore Central railway station to see the exhibition train.


Phalghat Division Railway Manager S. K. Raina said in his inaugural address that exhibitions such as these will help people learn about the works and achievements of great women. The achievements exhibited in the compartments of the train will inspire future generations, he added.


Recalling the exhibition train on Tagore, he said that it was of great use to the public because it illustrated Tagore’s life and works in full.


Area Officer G. Prabhakar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager K. P. Damodar, Divisional Engineer Nela Muttha Manikam, Divisional Security Commandant Raju, Rev. Fr. Alwyn Serrao, Principal of Roshni Nilaya, and Correspondent Frana Pinto were also present.

 

The train displays pictures of the Missionaries of the Charity nun caring for the underprivileged and downtrodden and features the experiences of those who have been healed after praying to the nun.


A video showing Mother Teresa - as she is better known - in various parts of India is also on display in the train, which has three coaches.


The train is painted blue and comprises three air-conditioned coaches in which photographs, write-ups on the life and message of Mother Teresa have been kept for public viewing. The Missionaries of Charity helped the Indian Railways in getting the photographs and various other materials.


As the above exhibition train is very interesting and informative for the public especially for students. The above exhibition train will leave Mangalore Central Railway station on 17th December, 2010. The exhibition will be opened between 10.00 to 20.00 hrs. Admission to the exhibition train is free.
