Puttur, March 23: Jaya Karnataka Founder President N Muthappa Rai Derla has donated Brahmaratha to Lord Mahaligeshwara of Puttur on March 22 at 10.15 am.
The new chariot (Brahmaratha) dedicating programme began with religious rituals by Brahmasri Kuntar Ravish, religious guide of the temple. Aroud thousand five hundred devotees gathered at the temple to witness the occasion. They chanted the sacred name of Lord Mahalingeshwara.
With this Muthappa rai has donated a biggest chariot of South India, which is 71 feet high. The Brahmaratha has been made of wood of trees more than two to two-and-a-half centuries old. A team of 15 - 20 artists have worked hard since May 10, 2008 to construct this chariot. The work has been supervised by Jagadish Shetty Nellikatte, and Karunakar Rai, the brother of Muthappa Rai. The chariot is 71ft in height, 20ft in width, and weighs 35 tonnes.
Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade and many other dignitaries from various fields were present.
Mauthappa Rai was felicitated by the district-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar in a stage function.
