Mangaluru, March 19, 2025: Congratulating the Mangaluru City police for the biggest drug haul of the State, Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Dakshina Kannada MP, on Tuesday said he will make every effort to get central investigation agencies, including the Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB), involved in investing international drug peddlers and eliminate the narcotic drug racket in Karnataka.
In a statement commending the work of Mangaluru City police in arresting two South African women and recovering MDMA worth ₹75 crore in Mangaluru, Capt. Chowta said this has brought to light the way the international drug peddlers are operating a big way in Mangaluru and other parts of Karnataka.
“As an MP, I will bring this to the notice of the State and the Central governments, the Union Home Ministry, and the NCB, and ensure effective action is taken to root out the drugs racket from Karnataka,” he said.
The MP said the State government should make its investigation agencies look at the case from all angles and find the persons behind this major drug racket.
Meanwhile, the Mangaluru police have initiated the process of finding the real address of Bamba Fanta alias Adonis Jabulile, 31, and Abigail Adonis alias Olijo Evans, 30, both from South Africa, from whom 37 kg of MDMA was recovered. The police had found the two using fake passports and visas.
Following arrest of one drug peddler Hyder, the Mangaluru City police’s Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths arrested Peter Ikedi Belonwu, a Nigerian, and recovered 6.248 kg of MDMA in 2024. In continuation of the investigation, the CCB sleuths arrested the two South African women soon after they landed at the Bengaluru airport from New Delhi on March 14 and were proceeding to distribute MDMA to their contacts.
