New Konkani transliteration software Konkanverter launched

Mangalore, Aug 12, 2012: Konkanverter, an online software program that automatically converts Konkani texts from one script to the other, developed by the World Institute of Konkani Language, World Konkani Centre, Mangalore, was launched in Mangalore on Aug 11, Saturday. 


The software can transliterate Konkani texts into five scripts—Kannada, Roman, Devanagari, Malayalam, and Perso-Arabic. Gurudutt Bantwalkar, the head of the software development project and assistant director of World Institute of Konkani Language, said that the Perso-Arabic script is not available in the present version, but will be added soon.

The institute has been working on the software for the past two years, he said. 


Speaking on the occasion, Ramdas Kamath, vice president (finance and admin) Infosys Technologies, said that the software will go a long way in bringing about harmony among different Konkani speaking communities. 


Voicing a similar opinion, Fr. Francis Rodrigues, editor of Rakknno, said that the software will unite the community and build harmony. 


World Konkani Centre President Basti Vaman Shenoy also addressed the gathering.
