Mangaluru, Sep 2, 2017: In a constructive view to create avenues for students of North Eastern States, Nitte University is set to host a 34 member delegation from North Eastern state from September 2 to 9 as part of the Solidarity Students Exchange Program (SSEP), a flagship program of Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC).

Nitte UniversityIndian National Fellowship Centre (INFC) is a trust registered in Mumbai and founded by P B Acharya, Governor of Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh. It has been working in the NE region for many years and carried out various outreach and integration programs.

Anirban Chakraborty, co-ordinator, Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER) said that the primary aim of this program is to create avenues for students to collaborate in various fields. The program is designed in a way where one college in a state of N-E is paired with a college in rest of seven sister’s states. "Once the pairing is established, a college in the first leg sends a team to its partner college and in the second leg hosts a team at a reciprocal event," added Anirban.

Responding to the request of INFC and keeping up with the commitment of N Vinaya Hegde, chancellor, Nitte University, towards emotional connect with N-E, Nitte University has planned a comprehensive weeklong program for the delegation.

The visiting team consists of 20 students and two teachers from Aizawl, Mizoram from Government T Ramona College and Government Aizawl West College and five participants from Arunachal Pradesh and a team of seven students from Nagaland.

The visiting team will attend career counselling sessions, workshops on entrepreneurship and employability and visit artisan villages to understand the lifestyle and practices of traditional Karnataka households. They will be hosted by various local families for meals and informal interactions.

The NE students’ team will be taken for sightseeing in Mangaluru and will also have a cultural evening to display their dances and witness folk dances of Karnataka. The 35 member N-E contingent will also be present at the 7th annual convocation of Nitte University as special invitees. This program is a reciprocal exchange program by Nitte University, which had sent a team to Government T Ramona College in the last week of March earlier this year to take part in their silver jubilee celebrations.

The NAMASTE Centre for Studies on North Eastern States University along with the NSS unit of Nitte University is coordinating this visit.
