As part of this operation, the police checked shoppers’ bags and other belongings for no apparent reason. Vehicles and motorists were also checked on national highways, at the airport and railways, and other sensitive places.

Around 220 police personnel were involved in this operation, as part of which they stopped vehicles and checked them thoroughly. According to Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh, 2 DCPs and SPs, 18 PSIs, 60 head constables, 20 SIs, 8 inspectors, and 65 constables participated in this operation.

Naturally, people began spreading baseless rumors and passing text messages about possible terrorist attacks following the death of Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden. When the media got in touch with top police officials, they were informed that this was just a mock drill aiming to enhance awareness among the public and to tighten security along the coastline against possible terrorist attacks.

Although it is just a mock drill, the police are taking it very seriously because a secret police team disguised as terrorists are planning to “attack” the city, and the city police are required to “catch” them at any costs. If the terrorist go unnoticed, the city police will be pulled up for loopholes in the security system. Several mock drills of this nature are currently being carried out in coastal areas to keep the coastline safe and protected.
