Over 600 creations displayed at 11th annual Goodu Deepa contest

Mangalore, Nov 4: The participants of the 11th annual goodu deepa competition organized by TV channel Namma Kudla at Kudroli Gokarnanatha Temple on Nov 4, Thursday, made and exhibited over 600 goodu deepas. The event was organized with the purpose of keeping alive traditions associated with Diwali and to give the people of Mangalore a chance to exhibit their talents.  Urmila Ramesh, partner, Hotel Deepa Comforts inaugurated the programme. Seemant Kumar Singh, Mangalore City Police Commissioner was the chief guest.

Gooddepa 2010 10Many people participated in the contest and created attractive goodu deepas out of colored paper, bamboo, and colored lights in the traditional, modern, and unique categories. The winners of the first and the second prizes received a gold medal each. Ten consolation prizes were also given for each category.

The prestigious Namma Tuluver Award was conferred on Dr. Dayanada Pai, the managing director of Century Builders; ‘Namma Kudla 2010 Award’ was conferred on Devdas Kapikad, the renowned Tulu dramatist; and the Bala Prathibhe Award was conferred on artiste Mayuri Ullal on the occasion.  Later, the team also felicitated Chandra Shekar Suvarna of Suvarna Arts Mulky. B Janardhana Poojary, Former Union Minister and AJ Shetty, educationist confered the awards.

A programme titled “Tulu Sangeetha Vaibhava” was presented by Rajesh and his team, followed by a dance programme by Dinesh Attavar, Mayuri Ullal, and Vibhavalakshmi. The entire programme was telecast live on V4 Live Channel.
