POCSO Court sentences man to 20 years RI in minor’s rape, abortion case

Mangaluru, November 22, 2024: The Additional District and Sessions Court which is also the POCSO Special Court has sentenced a 27 year old man from Koppadagandi in Kadirudyavara village of Belthangady to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and has imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him.

The convict is K Sudhir. He has been charged with raping a 13 year old girl who used to visit his house to watch TV. During the last week of December 2021 he had first taken the girl to his deserted grandmother’s house and had raped her there and had even threatened her against divulging the matter to anyone. He later had raped the girl whenever he got an opportunity and when she conceived, he got a photo of the two snapped together to prove they were married and took her to a hospital in Chikkamagalur, introduced her as his wife and got her aborted in December 2022.

A POCSO case was filed against him and a charge sheet filed. A total of 24 witnesses were heard and 62 documents placed before the court which after hearing both the sides passed a judgement pronouncing him guilty.
