Palemar inaugurates 76th annual IMA conference

Mangalore, Oct 30: District in-charge Minister J. Krishna Palemar inaugurated IMA Medicon 2010, the 76th annual conference of the Indian Medical Association (Karnataka state branch), a 2-day event, at Dr. T M A Pai International Convention Centre on October 30, Saturday.

Dr. V. S. Acharya, the minister for higher education, was the chief guest of the event. Speaking about health for all, he said primary health centres should be strengthened by implementing modern medical equipment. Stating that it is the duty of modern doctors to keep the community happy and healthy, he said that preventive measures and nutritive aspects should be given top priority.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the medical profession is one of the two professions, which are close to god. Speaking about how DK is gifted with several medical colleges, he encouraged students to take up medicine. Urging the government to sort out various problems faced by doctors, he said that even doctors should work hard to provide quality medical service to the community.


MLA Yogesh Bhat said that both doctors and members of the public should be equal importance to health and nutritional affairs. The fact that infant mortality rate has now decreased proves that doctors become very successful when they work with commitment.


Dr. M. Krishnaiah, president of IMA-KSB, presided over the event; Dr. G. B. Bidinahal, president elect of IMA-KS, hoisted the flag; and Dr. Kaikere Mohandas Bhandary, the conference secretary, proposed the vote of thanks.


Mayor Rajani Dugganna and Dr. M. Annayya Kulal, the secretary of IMA Mangalore branch, were also present.
