Mangalore, Jan 26,2013: The three-day Panambur Beach Festival organized as part of the ongoing Karavali Utsav 2013, got off to a colourful start at the Panambur beach on January 25, Friday. N Yogish Bhat, Deputy Speaker inaugurated the Beach Fest fanfare organised by the Beach Festival Committee and the District Administration by releasing a pigeon and flying kites.
In his inaugural address, Yogish Bhat said the vast coast line which the district has, provides ample scope for development. At the same time, he said tourism should be boosted along the coastline while strictly adhering to CRZ guidelines.
He also spoke on the various tourism development initiatives in Mangalore including a golf court, aquamarine park and a 3-D Planetorium.
Yatish Baikampady, CEO of Panambur Beach Tourism Development Project, who also spoke, said the organisers expected a footfall of over 2 lakhs during the three day event. He informed about the various contests to be organised as part of the event and added the Beach Fest would witness a grand finale with the performance of the renowned Euphoria band.
Deputy Commissioner N Prakash, Deputy Mayor Amithakala, Panambur Beach Tourism Corporation CEO Yatish Baikampady, Nithin Kumar, Premanand Shetty, Shakila Kava and others were present on the occasion.
Kite festival will be held on all the three days of the Beach Festival which will also feature a variety of programmes including sand sculpture contest, swimming and boating.
