Mangaluru, Nov 19, 2022: The platform Side wall work for new Island Platform - No. 4 and 5 at Mangaluru Central Railway station under progress.
Divisional Railway Manager, Shri Trilok Kothari reviewed the progress of work at Mangaluru Central railway station during his visit to the the Station. The work of the platform construction commenced in May 2022.
At present, a major portion of the Platform side wall work and earth filling has been completed.
Flooring, sheltering work and the extension of the Foot Over Bridge work are remaining.
Additional platforms
The new island platform will have a length of 540 metre and 10 metre width. The platform can hold 24 LHB coaches or 26 ICF make Coaches.The island platform construction worth Rs.4.5 Crore will be completed by February 2023.
Trees relocated
As part of the construction of additional platforms, Southern Railway, Palakkad Division successfully relocated two Peepal (Ashwatha/Ficus religiosa) trees to further 200 metres from its original location at the second entry of Mangaluru Central railway Station. The two trees - ageing 50 and 20 years respectively - which were the landmark in the area have been successfully relocated by Railways with the guidance of Environmentalist, Shri. Jeeth Milan Roche who has prior experience relocation of trees. Relocation work which started at 07:00 hours on 16.11.2022 was completed by 23:00 hours Team of Railway staff and environmentalists worked for it .Two heavy capacity Cranes, Poclain & a truck Trailer were also deployed for the work.
