Mangaluru, April 17, 2025: Expecting a large congregation at Shah Garden Maidan in Adyar-Kannur for the protest against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on Friday, the Mangaluru City police has advised motorists to avoid the stretch of Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway 75 between Padil and B.C. Road from noon to 9 p.m.
In an advisory issued on Wednesday, Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal said, for public convenience and also to ensure smooth flow of traffic, motorists should avoid the stretch during the demonstration. The advisory will not apply to local, emergency and essential vehicles, he said.
All types of goods vehicles and buses travelling to and from Mangaluru should avoid the Pumpwell/Nanthoor-Padil-Kannur-Adyar-Sahyadri-Arkula-Farangipete-Thumbay-B.C. Road stretch.
Alternative routes
Vehicles coming from Puttur, Bantwal, Belthangady to Mangaluru, or Kasaragod can use the Melkar Junction-Boliyar-Mudipu-Deralakatte-Thokkottu stretch. Vehicles from B.C. Road to Mangaluru or Udupi should use Polali Dwara-Panchayat Junction - Neermarga - Baiturli - Kulashekara – Nanthoor Junction stretch.
Cars, autorickshaws and motorcycles from Valachil Junction, B.C. Road, Thumbay, Farangipet to the city should use Valachil- Merlapadavu-Neermarga-Baithurli–Nanthoor junction route. These motorists can also use Adyar Katte-Harekala Bridge-Konaje-Deralakatte-Thokkottu route.
Vehicles from Pumpwell Junction to B.C. Road can use the Thokkottu-Deralakatte-Mudipu-Boliyar-Melkar route, while those going to B.C. Road from Surathkal can use Bikarnakatte- Kulshekar-Baiturli Junction-Neermarga–Kalpane Junction-B.C. Road-Kaikamba Polali Dwara. The Padavinanagady-Pachchanady-Vamanjoor- Baithurli Junction-Neermarga-Kalpane or the Bondel-Kavoor-Bajpe-Kaikamba-Moodbidri stretches can also be used, he said.
