Police torture issue: Will reveal names of those who pressurized cops, says Puttur MLA

Puttur, May 19, 2023: The case of alleged police brutality on the youth who were arrested in the case of putting up banner paying homage to BJP leaders Nalin Kumar Kateel and DV Sadananda Gowda in the wake of poll debacle has taken an interesting turn.

 

Puttur’s newly elected Congress MLA Ashok Rai has reacted to the controversy and said he can handle the issue reported from his constituency and that there was no need for the Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja to visit Puttur and comment on the issue.

It may be recalled here that Poonja had visited the hospital and enquired about the health of the youth who were reportedly subject to police atrocities.

Rai said he has already learnt from officials that the pressure exerted by BJP leaders was responsible for the torture and that he would reveal the names of those who exerted pressure in two days.

Rai also took exception to the allegation of RSS leader Kalladka Prabhaker Bhat that the Congress was responsible for the police torture of the accused.

He said action has been taken against the accused as per his directive to the police to investigate the case.
