Belthangady, Dec 6: In Ujire, the organizers of the World Tulu Convention, which is to be held from Dec 10 – 13, have already set up a model village of Tulunad illustrating the life of the people of Tulunad. A media centre for the convenience of visiting media people is also being established.
A Tulu Ahara Mela (Tulu food festival) will also be organized to not only demonstrate the preparation of Tulu traditional dishes, but also to display them for the benefit of the visitors. The Dakshina Kannada Fish Marketing Federation will also arrange an exhibition of fish. Already buntings, arches, and banners have been put up, all of them illustrating some aspect of Tulu culture.
The education department has declared a 3-day holiday to schools and colleges in Belthangady from Dec 10 - 13. A one-day holiday has been declared for all other schools and colleges of Dakshina Kannada.
The Postal Department of India plans to issue special postal covers based on the theme of the first World Tulu Convention. These special postal covers will illustrate the culture of Tulunad. Accordingly, they will have pictures of Chande Vadana, sports of Tulunad, pottery, and so on.
