Perla (Kasargod) June 9, 2014: Veteran poet Nadoja Dr Kayyara Kinhanna Rai was conferred the prestigious Pampa Award of the Department of Kannada and Culture of Karnataka Government, at a ceremony held at his residence Kavitha Kuteera premises at Peradala on June 8, Sunday. The Award gains significance as it has been conferred on the poet on the occasion of his birth centenary.
Umashree, Karnataka Minister for Kannada and Culture, conferred the Award on the veteran poet. The Award carries a cash prize of Rs 3 lakhs, a citation and a memento.
Speaking on the occasion, Umashree said Kayyara Kinhanna Rai has made invaluable contributions to Kannada. At the same time it is equally true that his name was not nominated for any award all these years as he was a border area Kannadiga. She also refuted the allegation that the government has conferred the Award on Kayyara quite late.
Karnataka Minister for Forest and Ecology B Ramanatha Rai who presided over the function described Kayyara Kinhanna Rai as a great source of strength and inspiration for Kannadigas.
Karnataka Health Minister UT Khader Puttur MLA Shakuntala Shetty, former MLA CH Kunhumbu, Karnataka Nataka Academy Member Umesh Salian, writer Na D’Souza, Kannada and Culture Department Director A Dayananda, and others were present.
