Pulse polio drive second round launched today

polio12apr15 Mangalore, Apr 15, 2012: The second round of the pulse polio drive was launched in the twin districts on April 15 Sunday, and it will continue till April 18.


Around 921 booths have been set up in DK to give polio drops to children below five. 


O. Shrirangappa, the district health officer (DHO) for DK, said that the focus will be on the children of migrant labourers in DK. Revealing statistics, he said that there are 431 children of migrant labourers, of whom 287 are in Mangalore Rural and 200 are in Bantwal. 


The DHO also said that they have a target of 1.65 lakh children in the districts, and according to the heath department’s estimate, there are 1,427 children of migrant labourers in DK. 3,788 volunteers are involved in the pulse polio drive and they will be supervised by 187 supervisors. 


The DHO has urged parents of children below 5 to take their children to the booths and get them immunized against polio. He also said that volunteers will visit homes during the next two days and urged apartment dwellers to cooperate with them.
