Mangaluru, November 6, 2024: The Regional Transport Authority meeting held here on Tuesday has set December 10 as the deadline for all express, contract carriage and service buses excluding city buses to fix doors to the vehicles in view of the safety of the passengers.
The decision was taken at the meeting held under the presidentship of Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan who is also the Regional Transport Authority Chairman.
The Deputy Commissioner has warned of stern action against buses failing to adhere to the orders. He also pointed out that the several directives given in this direction in the past were not followed.
KSRTC officials present in the meeting sought permit for running KSRTC buses on Mangaluru-Karkala, Bajpe-Talapady and six other new routes. However the private bus operators opposed this and urged the authorities not to grant permits for new routes. They also sought 15 days time to file objection.
The DC ordered private to buses mandatorily install GPS and also to take steps to fix panic buttons. The GPS must be connected to the Smart City Control Room, he said.
A KCCI representative sought attention to the problems faced by passengers due to non-availability of prepaid autorickshaws at Mangaluru Central Railway station during night time. The DC directed to hold a separate meeting in this regard under the leadership of City Police Commissioner.
City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal, DCP Dinesh Kumar, MCC Commissioner Anand and others were present.
