Udupi, April 5, 2013: No sooner there were reports that the BJP has chosen Sudhaker Shetty as its candidate from Udupi constituency, sitting MLA Raghupathi Bhat convened a press meet and claimed that it was he who recommended the name of Shetty after holding discussions with senior leaders like DV Sadananda Gowda, R Ashok and Ananthkumar.
Speaking to reporters here on April 5, Friday, Raghupathi Bhat said he was extremely happy over Shetty’s candidature and promised that all party workers would strive for his victory. “ He will be like my right hand,” Bhat said.
He also exuded confidence that Sudhaker Shetty would win the ensuing elections with the active support of all BJP men.
On the recent controversy of a sleaze CD row, the MLA said he needed time to sort it out. He made it clear that he was not running away from politics just because he was out of the race, Bhat said he will continue to remain an active politician.
Sudhaker Shetty who was also present on the occasion, said he was surprised over his selection, he said and thanked Raghupathi Bhat for recommending his name. Upendra Nayak, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Yashpal Suvarna and Udayakumar Shetty were present.
Sudhakar Shetty is the owner of Sharada International Hotel and is the former Vice President of Udupi CMC and former president of Udupi Urban Development Authority. In the 2004 elections, he had contested as an independent with the support of Hindu Yuva Sene after the BJP denied him a ticket.
