Several Congress leaders including DCC Chief Harish Kumar, Ramanatha Rai, U T Khader, Ibrahim Kodijal, MLC Manjunath Bhandari and others who addressed media on July 12, Tuesday  ridiculed the BJP government stating nothing much has been done despite the Centre’s team visiting the state  in the previous three years for assessing rain damage. Having  25 MPs and a double engine government has not helped much, they said.

During the last three years, the flood loss is estimated at Rs 8000 crores but the Centre has given only 3,965 crores. Even this year, the district has suffered extensive damage and 185 hectares of agricultural land has been damaged apart from 12 hectares of areca plantation. Several buildings have been damaged and sea erosion has also  done much harm, but the in-charge minister has not visited the affected areas and all party meet has also not be convened prior to monsoons, they alleged.
