Retired physical education teachers of DK felicitated

Mangalore, Aug12,2012:  The district’s retired physical education directors were felicitated and the Physical Education Directors’ office was inaugurated at Rajya Sarkari Naukarara Bhavana on Aug 11, Saturday. 


In his inaugural address, MLA K. Abhayachandra Jain said that physical education directors create players who can compete at the international level, but this requires a lot of financial assistance from the government and the entrepreneurs.

Addressing the gathering, NRI Forum Deputy Chairman Captain Ganesh Karnik spoke of the importance of discipline, adding that army selection takes into account attitude, and not medals and certificates. He said that the education minister has placed the demands of physical education directors and teachers in assembly, and the issues will be resolved soon. He also said that the government is spending Rs. 80 every month on assistance programs for physical education teachers. He also said that he will keep his promise of giving Rs. 5 lakhs for the association. 


Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker of the state legislative assembly, said that he is concerned about the welfare of coaches who train sports persons. 


Retired physical education teachers Margaret D’Souza, Prasanna Kumar Jain, Deevakar Hegde, Sundar Shetty, Tharanath Rai, Winnie Cutinho, M. Jagannatha Shetty, Prabhavathi Mallika, Gopala Shetty, K. Jinendra Hegde, Bhavani P., Girija V., Hilda Veigas, and others were felicitated on this occasion.
