Mangaluru, July 08, 2022: State Revenue Minister R Ashok has said that the Deputy Commissioners of seven districts where rain damage have been reported, have been directed to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs each to those families whose houses have been completely damaged.
He was speaking after visiting the sea erosion affected places of Ullal, including Battampady, Mogaveerapatna, Seaground and Uchila. District in-charge Minister Sunil Kumar and Minister for Fisheries and Ports S Angara also accompanied him.
He said the earlier compensation for damage to houses was Rs 95000 and the same has now been increased to Rs 5 lakhs after consulting the Chief Minister. Those who suffered damage due to gushing of rain water into the house will get Rs 10,000 instead of the earlier Rs 3,000, he said.
On the criticisms that the BJP government has not done much to solve the sea erosion problem, Ashok said the Congress Government was in power in the past for several years and did not solve the problem. Now they should not criticise the BJP government over this, he said.
