Saffron surge in Mangaluru; colourful procession adds gaiety

Mangaluru, March 02, 2015: It was a virtual saffron splurge in Mangaluru on March 1, Sunday. Saffron flags held by people wearing saffron headbands and attire ruled the city for at least one day. A sea of humanity from various parts of the district as well as the neighbouring Kasargod had descended to the city to be part of the Virat Hindu Samajotsava held at Nehru Maidan.

A colourful procession featuring attractive tableaux portraying the richness of Hinduism along with  slogans on Hinduism reverberated across the city as part of the Samajotsav organised to commemorate the golden jubilee of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

The procession which began at Ambedkar Circle   concluded at the programme venue and was participated by thousands and thousands of people chanting “Navella Hindu, Navella Ondu.” Slogans.

The chende team also added a distinct flavour to the procession which was participated by a large number of women. There were even dance teams wherein youth danced to the tune of patriotic songs. A man even donned the role of prime minister Narendra Modi and attracted the gathering.

The organisers had made arrangements for refreshments to the participants. They were served panaka and watermelons.

The procession was earlier inaugurated by Sri Gurudevananda Swamiji of Sri Kshetra Odiyoor. S Ganesh Rao, Honorary President of the Samajotsava Samithi, Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, President, Prof. MB Puranik, Working President of VHP and many others were present.
