Mangalore, Jan 1: The State Samudaya Cultural team, comprising and different types of laborers, performed a street play on Jan 1, Friday as part of a “Cultural Jatha” to eliminate the problems of hunger and food shortage in Karnataka. The team has initiated two Cultural Jathas from Chikkaballapur and Bidar; and both the Cultural Jathas will conclude at Dharward on Jan 2, Saturday.
The theme of the street play was on the shortage of food in Karnataka. In Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh, rice is available at subsidy rates, but in Karnataka it isn’t. The central government is responsible for food shortage in Karnataka because it has cancelled the ration of many families who belong to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
The street play dealt with the hard work done by farmers in their fields and the manual work they had to do without the help of any modern technology. The play also depicted the sufferings of farmers caused by destruction of crops due to various reasons such as floods and so on.
P B D’Sa, Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, Jagadish Amunje and Yashavanth Maroli were present.
