Krishna PalemarMangalore, September 15: Krishna J. Palemar, the district-in-charge minister, said that the district administration will soon regulate sand prices. He was addressing reporters on September 13, Monday.

Palemar had convened a meeting of BJP legislators in Circuit House, for which MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA Yogish Bhat, MLA S. Angara, MLA Mallika Prasad, Chairman of Coastal Development Authority B. Nagaraj Shetty, BJP District President Padmanabha Kottary, and DC V. Ponnuraj were present.

Noting the various restrictions imposed on transportation of sand into Kerala, the minister said that increasing sand prices within the district is not justified owing to the availability of sand in plenty. He said that he has received complaints about the sudden rise in the price of sand after the implementation of GPS in sand-transporting trucks. The common people, therefore, are not able to construct houses. The minister also called for a meeting to be held in the DC’s office on September 20 to discuss issues of regulating sand prices.

Promising that roads will be repaired and asphalted as soon as the monsoons recede, the minister said that the state government will communicate with the central government about the pathetic conditions of the national highways in Mangalore, which are directly supervised by the union government.
