School building collapse: Headmaster, ZP engineer suspended

Kadaba, August 28, 2024: The headmaster of the Kunturu Government Higher Primary School in Perabe village of Kadaba and a ZP engineer have been suspended following the collapse of a portion of the school building along with the roofing on Tuesday. Four students were injured in the incident. Luckily most of the students were outside the school building when it collapsed.

The ZP engineer Sangappa Hukkeri and headmaster Ramesh have been suspended as per the orders of the Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan.

The building collapsed when a trench was being laid using an excavator behind the building for the construction of a retaining wall. It is learnt this caused damage to the school building resulting in its collapse.

The school building is nearly 50 years old and the excavation of the ground near the school building housing the fifth and seven standards led to the collapse of the portion of the building. It is said its foundation was not proper.

Puttur Assistant Commissioner Jubin Mohapatra, Kadaba Tahsildar Prabhaker Khajure and others visited the spot.
