Shashi Kiran Shetty appointed Karnataka’s new Advocate General

Bengaluru, May 21, 2023: The newly appointed cabinet of Karnataka headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday appointed K. Shashi Kiran Shetty, a 47-year-old Senior Advocate as the Advocate General of the state.

P. Vishwanath Shetty, father of Shashi Kiran Shetty, served as a former judge of the High Court of Karnataka and Lokayukta. Shetty obtained his law degree from the National Law School of India University in Bengaluru in the year 1998. With extensive experience as a lawyer in both the High Court and the Supreme Court, Shetty was designated as a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Karnataka in 2014.

Throughout his career, he has represented various clients, including political leaders involved in election petitions, deemed universities, private medical and engineering colleges dealing with admissions and affiliations, multinational companies, and many other litigants.

Notably, Shetty was among the Senior Advocates who represented the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee and the current CM Siddaramaiah, the former leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, in the case regarding the disqualification of 14 MLAs before the apex court in 2019. Recently, he also appeared before the Supreme Court of India as a representative for a petitioner who challenged the withdrawal of 4 per cent reservations for Muslims in the State, a decision made by the previous BJP government.
