Bantwala Feb 27: A great role model to youth and nuns, Sr Crescentia celebrated her 100th year birthday on February 25. She is a resident of Holy Family Convent, Nirkana, Vagga of Bantwal since 1978.
Sr Crescentia, basically hails from Aldona in Goa, was born on February 25, 1910 as the fourth child to Francis and carlota.
It was the inspiration of Bethany Sisters founder Raymond Mascarenhas, which made her to join the profession at Bethany Convent in Mangalore at the age of ten. In her young age she was recognized as Maria, Camelina and Angelica. But she was identified as Sr Crescentia, after accepting the nunhood.
She has served at Gurupur, Puttur, Siddakatte, Kanajar, Dharwad and Kinnigoli convents in the state apart from neighboring state Kerala.
