Six arrested for thrashing man suspecting him to be child kidnapper

Mangaluru, Aug 21, 2018:  Six persons have been arrested on the charges of  assaulting a person who was seeking donations, on the suspicion that he was a kidnapper of children. The incident had taken place in Gurukambla on Sunday.

The arrested are Sheikh Rizwan (35), Ajmal Khan (43), Muhammed Imran (42), Muhammed Irfan (38), Shah Nawaz (19) and Muhammed Imthiaz (42). All of them are residents of Gurukambla.

It has been gathered that the victim named Hamza (63) from Kankanady along with a friend was seeking donations for the marriage of his friend’s sister and also for Bakrid,  by making a door-to-door visit at Gurukambla. However, some locals  who suspected Hamza to be a child kidnapper tied him to a pole and had thrashed him. The police who later rushed to the spot had admitted him to hospital.

According to Hamza, a gang of nearly 40 people had thrashed him for no fault of his. He also stated that his friend  had fled on seeing the mob.  A case has been registered in Bajpe police station.
