Six separated couples reunited at Lok Adalats in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada

Mangaluru, Dec 15, 2024: In a heartwarming outcome of the National Lok Adalat held on Saturday, six estranged couples were reunited in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, marking a significant resolution to their long-standing disputes.

At the Family Court in Udupi, a couple separated for six years exchanged garlands and shared sweets in the presence of judicial officers, symbolizing their remarriage. The mediation was facilitated by a Bench headed by Udupi Principal District and Sessions Judge Kiran Siddappa Gangannavar, Additional District and Sessions Judge Srinivasa Suvarna, and member-secretary of the Udupi District Legal Services Authority, P.R. Yogesh.

Among the 30,302 cases resolved in Udupi district, with a total settlement amount of Rs.19.5 crore, was the divorce case of Gopal Shetty and Ashalata Shetty. The couple had separated shortly after their marriage in 2011. After 13 years, they reconciled during the Lok Adalat proceedings.

Similarly, another couple, Raghavendra Acharya of Sorab and Malati of Madharti, resolved their six-year-long differences. Their case, initially filed in Shivamogga, was transferred to Udupi following a High Court directive.

In a third instance, Karnananda and Keertakumari, who parted ways in 2021, also decided to reunite during the Lok Adalat.

Successful mediation in Dakshina Kannada
In Dakshina Kannada, three couples resolved their disputes and chose to reconcile during the Lok Adalat. These cases were among the 41,059 resolved across 37 Benches in the district.

Out of the total cases, 37,549 were pre-litigation disputes involving financial institutions and individuals, with settlements amounting to Rs.4.5 crore. Additionally, 3,510 pending cases were resolved, resulting in a settlement amount of Rs.22.68 crore, according to the Dakshina Kannada Legal Services Authority.

The Lok Adalats demonstrated the power of mediation in resolving not only financial disputes but also deeply personal conflicts, offering a fresh start to the reunited couples.
