Udupi, April 23, 2017: Religion is meant to provide peace and solace to man but not to nurture hatred and vengeance, said Rajya Sabha Member B K Hariprasad.
He was speaking after inaugurating a ceremony organised at the Town Hall here on April 23, Sunday under the aegis of the Udupi District Billawa Yuva Vedike to felicitate Gurkars of various Garodis in Udupi district. A get-together of prominent leaders of Garodis was also organised to coincide with the occasion.
Stating that there should be no discrimination in a place of worship, Hariprasad said it was a regret to note that Dalits and Tribals were still not allowed inside several temples in the nation.
He also stressed the role of Gurkars in guiding and helping the society in times of need and urged people to be inspired by the life and achievements of Shree Narayana Guru and Koti Chennaya.
Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLC presided over the function. Folk scholar Bannanje Babu Amin and Adi Udupi Shree Brahma Baidarkala Sanskritika Adhyayana Kendra President Damodar Kalmady were felicitated. A book "Deyi Baidyathi’ was released on the occasion.
Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar delivered the key note address. Former MLA K Raghupathi Bhat, Udupi CMC President Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje, Udupi District BJP President Mattar Ratnaker Hegde, Yuva Vedike Chief Praveen Poojary and others were present.
