Some celebrate Rajyotsava by cleaning roads

Mangaluru, Nov 2, 2015 : While elected representatives and people were celebrating the 60th Rajyotsava Day at Nehru Maidan, some students and volunteers decided to celebrate the day by cleaning the road leading to the maidan and the adjoining roads.

Students from private medical colleges, personnel from public sector banks and undertakings, Ganesh Karnik, MLC, and volunteers of the Ramakrishna Mission took part in the mission’s Swachh Mangaluru Abhiyan.

The programme held on Sunday was the 25th held so far.

Following a formal function outside the newly constructed Mini Vidhana Soudha, volunteers and college students cleaning the Hampankatta road and the one between the taluk panchayat office and Mangaluru Central. Volunteers also took up the task of repairing a damaged portion of the road leading to Mangaluru Central, which had been slowing down traffic on Hampankatta road.

Volunteers removed the damaged interlocking tiles at a turn near the taluk panchayat office using a JCB and relayed it properly. They also went around the taluk panchayat and the Mini Vidhana Soudha premises and cleared garbage that had been accumulated. They also laid cement blocks around two huge trees in the premises for people to sit.

Students from Nitte Medical college, Government B.Ed college, PA Engineering College, Ramakrishna Ashram took part in the programme.

Members from Nivedita Balaga, Ishwarananda Sevashrama, Sharada Mahila Vrinda, several ex-servicemen and officials from Corporation Bank and MRPL participated in the programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Swami Nityasthananda from Ramakrishna Mutt’s Belur Mutt. Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor K. Byrappa, Executive Director of Corporation Bank, B.K. Srivastav, and Managing Director of MRPL, H. Kumar, participated in the programme.
