Sowjanya case referred to CID – Home Minister Ashok

Udupi, Nov 24, 2012 : Interacting with reporters on Nov 23, Home Minister R. Ashok said that the Government of Karnataka has referred the Sowjanya rape and murder case to the CID for investigation.

Further, he said that Dr. Veerendra Heggade, the dharmadhikari of Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, and the family of Sowjanya had applied for a CID investigation. The CID will investigate the case thoroughly for 2 months and submit an investigative report to the government.

Regarding the introduction of KSRTC city bus services in Mangalore, the home minister said that KSRTC city bus service was introduced in Mangalore in response to the public’s demand, adding that similar services will be launched in Udupi too. Although some parties have taken the issue to court, the prohibition might soon be removed and the project can finally be implemented in Udupi, he said.

Regarding the issue of disposing the nuclear waste of Tamil Nadu in Karnataka, he said that disposing nuclear waste is not an easy matter and the Government of Karnataka will not permit it. He also said that the central government has not discussed the issue with the state government.

Speaking about the need to beef up coastal security, he said that seven Coast Guards have already been assigned the task of strengthening coastal security. Additional security facilities will soon be introduced, he added.
