Mangaluru, Nov 03, 2023: K S Hegde Medical Academy, Deralakatte Mangalore conducted spastic child care day on 3rd November 2023 at KSHEMA Auditorium. This function was organised by Department of Orthopaedics in collaboration with PMR department, Paediatrics department, N-SPECC of AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, Samagra Shikshana Karnataka, RBSK, Sri Sathya Sai Loka Seva Trust, Alike, Canara Orthopaedic Surgeons Trust and Wintzet Pharma. More than 145 children with special health needs from Dakshina Kannada along with their caretakers participated in the program.
On the account of silver jubilee celebration of K S Hegde Medical Academy, the children with spastic needs were given free KSHEMA health cards with medical insurance coverage worth Rs 50,000 each for next one year for the cerebral palsy child family of five members. The children were screened for disabilities by consultants of orthopaedics, paediatrics, PMR and dental college.
The formal function was inaugurated by Dr Anandh K, CEO, DKZP, who formally handed over a free KSHEMA health card to one of the wheelchair bound beneficiaries. He also appreciated the efforts by the NITTE(Deemed to be university) towards the upliftment of the children with special health care needs. Dr Thimmaiah HR, DHO and Dr Sumangala S Nayak, DyPC, SSK briefed the audience about government initiatives available for special children. The stage was also shared by Dr U.S Krishna Nayak, Dean, ABSMIDS, Dr Sumalatha Shetty, Medical Superintendent JKSHCH, Dr. Seema Pavaman, HOD paediatrics, Dr Sushil Chugh, PMR Specialist. Dr Amarshree A Shetty, Secretary, N-SPECC, ABSMIDS welcomed the gathering. Dr Varun Shetty, Paediatric orthopaedic surgeon proposed vote of thanks.
