Mangalore, Oct 25: Accusing Speaker K. G. Bopaiah of acting custodian to the Bharatiya Janatha Party (BJP), MLA U. T. Khader said that the speaker’s move of issuing notices to 15 Congress and JD (S) MLAs is just a ploy to pull the BJP-led state government out of danger of collapsing. He was addressing media persons at a press conference held on Oct 25, Monday.
Further flaying the speaker, Khader said that attempts are being made to curb the opposition MLAs’ right to question the speaker’s unconstitutional approval of a crucial session when the house was clearly not in order. Protesting was the opposition MLAs natural response when the ruling party turned dictatorial by not permitting them to participate in the session and letting MLCs inside the house for the trust vote, he stated.
Clarifying that he had only protested the unconstitutional act of the speaker, but hadn’t broken any furniture in the process, he said that he had done the right thing as a responsible legislator and a representative of the people. He said that he is ready to speak the truth before the legislative committee headed by BJP MLA Appachu Ranjan.
The committee has issued a notice to 15 MLAs, including Khader, to appear before it on Oct 28, he explained. Puttaraju, Bandeppa Kashempur, Zameer Ahmed Khan, H. C. Balakrishna, M. T. Krishnappa, K. Raju, K. P. Bacchedgowda, B. K. Sangameshwar, N. A. Harris, Suresh Gowda, P. M. Ashok, Kakasab Patil, Rahim Khan, and H. P. Manjunath are the other MLAs who have received notices.
