Special Train Commemorating Tagore reaches Mangalore

Mangalore, November 5: Sanskriti Express, the special mobile exhibition train being run to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, opened for display in the city at the Mangalore Central Railway station on Friday, November 5.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The train had been flagged off by Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee from Howrah on May 9, 2010 and after travelling Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala, it has now come to Mangalore from Bangalore. It will leave Mangalore on Saturday, November 6.

The exhibition train has 5 coaches: Coach 1 comprises of Jibon Smriti- Tagore’s life, his reminiscences, Santhiniketan and Sriniketan, Coach 2 includes: Gitanjali – songs, verses and poems, Coach 3: Muktodhara - short stories, novels dramas, essays, and Tagore, the performer, Coach 4: Chitrarekha – paintings, portraits and sketches and Coach 5:  SeshKatha and Smaranika - his final journey and last days. The exhibition will be kept for public view till 8 pm on Friday and from 10 am to 8 pm on Saturday.

 “The train is aesthetically created; portraying the life of Tagore very well and the Mangaloreans, especially students of all school and colleges must come here to see the exhibition said the Railway officers who welcomed the Tagore train at the Mangalore Central at 11 am in the morning.  A cultural programme has also been held before the commencement of exhibition.
