Mangalore, Feb 1: N Yogish Bhat, Legislator, has emphasized the need to hold programmes that encourage as well as provide an opportunity to the special children to exhibit their talents.
He was speaking after inaugurating Janapada Nrityotsava-2010, a state level folk dance competition for the mentally challenged, organized by the Saanidhya Samarth Centre at Town Hall on February 1, Monday.
Stating that none of the governments in the past have strived to neither provide any facility nor implement any scheme for the benefit of special children and teachers of special schools, he urged the chief minister to frame programmes for the benefit of the special children.
Participating as a chief guest, K P Purushotham, Personal Assistant to the chief minister, also emphasized the need for special attention from the government towards the special children.
Vasanth Kumar Shetty delivered the key-note address.U C Paulose, Ashok Kumar, Dinesh Shetty and Kasturi were felicitated for their outstanding services to the special school children and institution.
Late Krishna Kumar memorial endowment prizes were distributed on the occasion. Mahabala Marla, President, Ganesha Seva Trust, U T Khader, Legislator, H T Radhakrishna, Shashikala A, Vinod Sharlekar, Ganesh Shetty and others were present on the occasion.
Special children from as many as 32 schools in 15 districts are participating in the two-day event.
