Mangalore April 20: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Siddharamaiah criticized the way Home Minister V S Acharya handled the situation of the Bangalore Stadium blasts, saying that Acharya is not fit to be the home minister. He was speaking to journalists at Circuit House in Mangalore on April 20, Tuesday.
Mentioning that the people of Karnataka must now live in fear because of the government’s efficiency, he said that, although the intelligence is within the control of the chief minister, it is not communicated to the home minister. He accused the government of being negligent in spite of knowing that Bangalore is a terrorist target and challenged the government to inform the people about the steps taken if it feels that a betting lobby is responsible for the blasts.
Siddharamaiah also did not spare BJP National General Secretary Ananth Kumar and said that he should have complained in Parliament if he had any grouse against the union government.
Declaring that the centre provides 1,546 MW of power to Karnataka without discrimination, he accused the state government of refusing to provide land at Kudlagi in Bijapur to the centre for the production of electricity. Even Gujarath Chief Minister Narendra Modi wanted to provide 260 MW surplus power to Karnataka, but the state government has no grid line from the west. He said that the state government is so inefficient that it will spend another 5 years to construct a corridor, adding that the government’s failure to produce electricity and repair the power plant at Raichur reflects its inefficiency.
He also said that the BJP is the only party that has ever attempted to politicize the Gram Panchayat Elections. Saying that he has never witnessed any chief minister issue the statement that, if BJP comes to power in the Gram Panchayath elections, it will create a vigilance committee, he accused the BJP of giving the post of vigilance to the RSS despite the fact that money flows in from the state revenue and the centre. He warned that it will become another rehabilitation centre for the RSS. He also said that the Congress will protest vehemently if any vigilance committee is formed since it will be an insult to the elected members of the Gram Panchayat.
Speaking about the resignation given by Shashi Tharoor, Siddaramaiah said that it shows the difference between the central government and the government of Karnataka. The chief minister had not demanded the resignation of ministers such as Renukacharya, Sampangi, Reddy brothers, and others who are accused of wrongdoing. Instead, the CM is waiting for the court to declare them guilty. The union government, on the other hand, did not wait for any court order in the case of Shashi Tharoor. He challenged Yeddyurappa to dismiss the Reddys or resign if he has any dignity.
MLAs Abhaya Chandra Jain and U T Khader, Ramanath Rai, Ivan D’Souza, and other Congress leaders were present during the press conference.
