Surgeon Vice Admiral Dr. Arti Sarin Emphasizes Role of Education in Nation-Building at Nitte University Convocation

Mangaluru, November 17, 2024: The 14th convocation ceremony of Nitte (Deemed to be University) was held on Saturday at the K S Hegde Medical Academy Grounds, where Surgeon Vice Admiral Dr. Arti Sarin, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), delivered an inspiring convocation address.

Dr. Sarin highlighted the transformative role of education in fostering societal growth, stating, “The holistic development of humanity is possible only when we use our talents for the upliftment of society. This is one of the primary objectives of education.” Addressing the graduating students, she emphasized their responsibility as educated citizens to contribute to nation-building and preserve India’s cultural heritage.

She remarked that learning is a lifelong journey, urging graduates to continuously expand their knowledge while dedicating themselves to personal and societal advancement. Dr. Sarin encouraged resilience in the face of challenges, emphasizing the importance of inner strength and a commitment to both individual and collective progress.

Dr. Sarin also lauded Nitte University for its role in shaping future leaders, calling it exemplary in providing a robust educational environment.

In his welcome address, Prof. Dr. M. S. Moodithaya, Vice-Chancellor of Nitte University, showcased the institution’s stellar achievements. Nitte University, accredited with an ’A+’ grade by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), ranks 66th among over 1,100 Indian universities in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). The A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences holds the 6th rank nationwide, while the Nitte Gulabi Shetty Memorial Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences ranks 41st.

A total of 1,052 graduates received their degrees at the convocation, representing diverse fields such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, allied health sciences, architecture, biological sciences, and business administration. The ceremony also honored academic excellence with 22 gold medals and 72 merit certificates awarded to outstanding students.

The convocation was presided over by Chancellor N. Vinaya Hegde, with Pro-Chancellor (Hospital Management) Prof. Dr. M. Shantharam Shetty, Pro-Chancellor (Administration) Vishal Hegde, Registrar Prof. Dr. Harsha Halahalli and other distinguished dignitaries in attendance.
