Mr. Kumar also voiced his opinion that the progamme to be telecast on Suvarna channel is just a small step toward satisfying the entertainment requirements of the Tulu-speaking community, which comprises around 5 million people scattered all over the world. Suvarna channel also hopes to have a Tulu network, he informed. The purpose of launching a Tulu serial is to get closer to the Tulu-speaking audience, he added.

Business Head of Suvarna Anup Chandrashekaran said that the programme has been launched with the purpose of reaching out to a large segment of the population. The channel is proud of being the first satellite channel to recognize the significance of the Tulu language, which has some important art and theatre forms, he said.

Expressing his opinion regarding the significance of Tulu, actor Navin D. Padil said that Tulu can be considered to be the sister of Kannada, owing to which the programme on Suvarna channel will provide an opportunity to the artistes of the coastal region to showcase their talents.

Shivadhwaj, the actor and director of the Tulu serial, said that comedy has an important position in Tulu theatre, which has some talented actors. The serial will provide an opportunity for Tulu artistes to showcase their talents, which will lead to many more Tulu programmes in future, he said.

Twenty episodes of the Tulu serial have been completed, and 30 artistes have played a role in it. The team plans to produce 160 episodes in all and might exceed that number. Each episode carries a social message, he said. The serial will be shown from September 18 on Saturdays and Sundays from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., he added.
