The participants will present Bhurgyalen Sobhan at the 114th Moinyali Maanchi at 6:30 p.m. on May 1. The children will sing, dance, and present skits. The camp commenced on April 25.

Speaking of the purposes of organizing the residential camp, Mandd Sobhann Gurkar Eric Ozario says that the residential camp is organized to encourage talents in children and to introduce them to Konkani language and culture. The children will be provided theory and practical training in any three departments of their choice, after which they are expected to present a performance. The camp is based on the concept “Hason khelon Shikoyan,” ensuring that the children have a lot of fun as they learn.

The children wake up at 6:00 a.m. and go to bed at 10:00 p.m. after reviewing the happenings of the day. Daily, they interact with an eminent Konkani personality, a person who has contributed a lot to Konkani language, literature, or culture, for half an hour so that they can draw inspiration and learn from their experiences. They are also taught Spoken Konkani.

Bhurgyalem Sobhann will comprise a presentation of 6 songs, four dance presentations, and a skit “Shithak Khar Na Khandyak Bhar Na.” The music training was provided by Eric Ozerio and his team comprising Dylan Caldeira, Lavita Lobo, and Lenoy Lobo; the choreography training was provided by Merula D’Silva, Vernon D’Souza, and Nandita Sequeira; the theatre training was provided by John Permannur.

Mandd Sobhann organizes annual residential camps for children from the 7th to 10th standards. It conducted camps for the first time this year in Mumbai and has plans to conduct similar camps in Mysore by the end of June 2011. Over 72 children participated in the Mumbai camp and a second camp has been planned for May 3 – 11 to encourage more children.
