Members of an organisation named Nam Tamilar Iyakkam  who had assaulted Manjunath had videographed the attack and had posted it on social sites. As this video went viral, Kannada organisations in Bengaluru took up cudgels against it eventually leading to a widespread protest.

Manjunath (38) who hails from Tattadi in Kundapur taluk had left for a south India tour in his Swaraj Mazda vehicle last Friday. The attack by  Tamil organisations on Monday  left him injured in his  ears  and he is currently under the protection of Rameshwar police. His parents  Sheena Kulal, Girijamma,  Vittal Shetty of Amasebail   Shilpa Store, his wife , daughter and three members of Kamath family of Gangolli who had travelled along with Kulal are said to be safe in a lodge.

The assaulters had reportedly had told in Tamil that ’Cauvery belongs to Tamil Nadu and Tamilians’ and had asked Manjunath to repeat the same. When Manjunath could not understand what they said, they grew angry and assaulted him, says Manjunath. It is learnt that as Manjunath used to stay in the same lodge whenever he visited Tamil Nadu, the lodge staff were very co-operative and rushed to his help.
