Udupi, July 24 2018: The ritual of ‘Tapta Mudra Dharana’ was held at the Sri Krishna Mutt here on July 23, Monday.
A large number of devotees took part in the ritual.
Every year, the ritual is conducted with great enthusiasm in Shiroor Mutt. However, this year without the seer, the devotees have a feeling of hollowness.
The air hung thick grief with the sudden demise of Lakshmivara Theertha Swami. Instead of devotees, police personnel were at the Shiroor Mutt.
According to Shiroor Mutt devotees, mudra was stamped on the arms of the Brahmins from the beginning. The mudra that was restricted to Brahmins were extended to non-Brahmins by the Shiroor seer.
This year, instead of Shiroor Mutt, the mudra dharana was held at Palimaru and Krishnapura Mutts.
This ritual is held on the first Ekadashi of Ashada Masa known as ‘Prathama Ekadashi’.
Paryaya seer Vidyadheesha Theertha Swami and Adamaru junior pontiff Eshapriya Theertha Swami stamped mudra on the devotees.
These seals were earlier heated in the ‘Sudarshana Homa’ held at the temple.
The ‘chakra’ is stamped on the right arm, while the ‘shanka’ is stamped on the left
arm.
In Udupi, Krishnapura Mutt seer Vidyasagara Theertha Swami stamped the mudra on the devotees.
Pejawar seer Vishwesha Theertha Swami stamped mudra on devotees in Chennai while Sode Mutt seer Vishwavallabha Teertha Swami and Puthige Mutt seer Sugunendra Teertha Swami stamped mudra on devotees in Bengaluru.
Subrahmanya Mutt Seer Vidyaprasanna Theertha Swami stamped mudra on devotees at Sri Janardhana Swami Temple in Ujire.
Speaking on the occasion, Vidyaprasanna seer said that the mudra dharana will help to overcome our sins.
A huge throng of people were seen for the annual ritual.
