Udupi, Jan 17, 2014: The Temple Town of Udupi is all decked up for the Paryaya festivities which will be held on January 18, Saturday. Thousands of people from far and near have already descended on the town to be a part of the grand celebrations wherein Sri Vidya Vallabha Theertha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Mutt will ascend the Sarvajna Peetha or the Paryaya Throne.
All arrangements are in place for the great event which people of the temple town have been eagerly awaiting. The administration has also taken measures to ensure that the programmes are held in a peaceful atmosphere. The police department has stepped up security in the town in the wake of Paryaya.
SP Boralingaiah while participating in a meeting held at the DC office, said 1200 additional police personnel from other districts will be deployed in the town. A total of 45 CCTV cameras will keep a close watch of the happenings.
Udupi District in-charge Minister Vinaykumar Sorake who also attended the meeting, said all departments should co-operate in the successful conduct of the paryaya.
Srikanth Rao, Udupi CMC Commissioner, Dr MT Reju, Deputy Commissioner, A Prabhaker Sharma, ZP CEO and several other officers were present at the meeting.
Palanquin debate : The palanquin debate seem to be raging as far as the Paryaya is concerned. If Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt had earlier said that he would not sit on a palanquin carried by people but instead sit on a palanquin placed on a vehicle, the Shiroor Mutt seer Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji said it would not be fair to shun a tradition practiced since eight centuries. He at the same time said he would not sit in a palanquin but will walk along with the palanquin.
