Mulky, Nov 24, 2011: A couple of jewelry shops, located on Pandit Hari Bhat Road in Haleyangadi, were broken into and gold and silver worth Rs. 20 lakh were stolen.
The robbery was discovered early in the morning of Thursday and the Mulky police were alerted. The police used sniffer dogs and fingerprint experts in their investigation.
The thieves had broken into Shri Durga Jewelers, which belongs to Surya Kumar, and Padmashree Jewellers, which belongs to Karunakar Acharya.
Police believe that the shops must have been broken into early on Thursday because they were patrolling the area till 1:30 a.m.
A gurkha was the first person to notice that the shops were broken into. He then informed a local person, who alerted the Mulky police and the owners of the stores.
According to the owners of the shops, the thieves have stolen 20kgs of silver and a couple of gold chains from Durga Jewelers and 2kgs of silver ornaments from Padmashree Jewelers.
