An island of Mangalore, Bengre is located 2 km away from Mangalore. To reach the city, dwellers of this island have to cross the river. But crossing the river using small boats is also very risky and it turned into a major problem of people at Bengre later. The small boats, which used to carry the people from Island to the city, were carrying about 8000 people every day. The small boats were working under the patronage of Bengre Mahajana Sabha earlier. With the introduction of new boats, people of this area will make use of these boats.
