Thumbay: BA Group Patriarch B. Ahmed Hajee Mohiudeen Passes Away

Mangaluru, August 16, 2020: B. Ahmed Hajee Mohiudeen, the Founder Chairman of BA Group of Companies passed away this morning at 11:30 a.m. at a private hospital in the city, following brief illness. He was 89. His mortal remains will be kept at Thumbay PU College premises at 3:00 p.m. for the public to pay last respects. At 4:00 p.m., it will proceed to the mosque for performing last rites.

B. Ahmed Hajee Mohiudeen was a pioneering businessman, educationist and philanthropist who immersed himself in social work and service activities throughout his lifetime. He was responsible for the uplift of Thumbay village, and the local people benefited greatly from his business and philanthropic endeavours in the region.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter. His eldest son is Thumbay Moideen (Founder President of Thumbay Group, Ajman, UAE), his second son is B. Abdul Salam (Managing Director & CEO, Thumbay Group) and his third son is B. M. Ashraf (Managing Director, Mohiudeen Wood Works LLC, Ajman, UAE). His daughter is Mariam Shabana Faizal.

Brief Biography
B. Ahmed Hajee Mohiudeen was born at Bunder, Mangalore on June 18, 1933 to Alhaj Mohiudeen Chayyabba and his wife Mariamma. He did his primary schooling at Badria School, Mangalore, secondary schooling at Ganapathi High School, Mangalore and graduated in commerce from Government College, Mangalore.

He married Bifathima, the eldest daughter of the late timber baron Yenepoya Moideen Kunhi. After gaining rigorous experience in the trade under the guidance of his father in law, in 1964 he started his own timber business at Thumbay village, which lies 20 kms from Mangalore, enroute to Bantwal. With hard work, he prospered in this business and made a name for himself.

With his growing stature, he soon diversified in business by establishing saw mill in 1970, Fatima Timbers in 1975, Hajee Timbers Complex in 1978, Hajee Timber Industries in 1984 and B. A. Shipping, a timber importing unit in 1986.

1988 he established the Tumbay Educational Trust and Tumbay High School. To begin with, this school had just 11 students and two teachers. Later, through this institution, he was able to establish Tumbay Pre-University College, Tumbay English Medium High School and Tumbay Central School.

In 2004, he started the BA Industrial Training Institute (ITI) and in 2009 started the BA Hospital. Since 2013, this hospital is being run with the expertise of Father Muller Hospital, Kankanady, Mangalore.

Having a deep concern for society, he actively involved himself in a variety of religious, social, cultural and philanthropic endeavours in the district as Founder, Patron, Chairman or Director.

Badria Educational Institutions, Kandak, Mangalore, Crescent Education Society, Navabharath Night High School, Kasba Bengre School Development & Monitoring Committee, Seerat Committee of Mangalore, Bantwal, Puttur and Belthangady,  DK and Udupi District Central Muslim Committee, Islamic Trust, Mangalore, Thumbay Mohideen Jama Masjid, Tumbay Development Committee (President), Yenepoya Medical College and Yenepoya Dental College (Trustee), Al Ameen Educational Society, Bangalore, Kannada Jagarathi Samithi, State Adult Education Committee, Mangalore University (Syndicate member), Manipal Industries (Director) and Gulf Medical University (Patron) are some of organizations that he has been associated with during his lifetime.
