Mangalore, April 16, 2012 : Toastmasters International, District 82, Division I organized Speak and Spark, a public speaking competition in the prepared speech and extempore categories.
A total of 12 people participated. Surendra Rao, the retired head of the department of history at Mangalore University, was the chief guest of the event.
Hima Urmila Shetty, the division governor of Toastmasters International, said that the first of the three winners will represent the district-level annual conference, scheduled to be held in Colombo in Shri Lanka.
Toastmasters International has 150 members in 5 clubs in Mangalore. Thirty of them are from Infinity, the Toastmasters Club at Infosys Mangalore. The Winners Club is the oldest Toastmasters Club in Mangalore with 50 members and the second oldest club is Mangalore.
Toastmasters International aims at achieving excellence in public speaking and leadership through self training and self education. One of the special features of the club is that peers guide one another in the complete absence of experts.
