As a precautionary measure, the district disaster management authority has prohibited trekking to popular peaks, including Kumaradhara and Gadaikallu, and Bandaje Falls in Belthangady taluk. The decision comes in response to reports of large numbers of trekkers visiting these areas despite the hazardous conditions.

Mr. Muhilan emphasized that the ban extends to treks organized by homestays, resorts, and the Forest Department during the monsoon. Violators of this order will face criminal proceedings under the Disaster Management Act.

In a related order, Mr. Muhilan has warned tourists against entering waterfalls, rivers, streams, and the sea during the monsoon. Swimming and adventure activities in these waterbodies are also prohibited. This measure aims to prevent drowning incidents, which have been reported in the district as people venture into swollen waterbodies for swimming, fishing, and other activities.

The Disaster Management Act authorizes the district authority to restrict and control entry into vulnerable areas. Violations of these directions are punishable offenses under the Act, Mr. Muhilan added.
