Tulunada Rakshana Vedike stages protest against bad condition of road at Mahakalipadpu.

Mangalore, Jan 6: Members of the Tulunada Rakshana Vedike along with the residents of Mahakalipadpu staged a rasta roko on Thursday to protest against the poor condition of road and poor drainage system at Mahakali Padpu, Jeppu. A protest rally was also held as part of protest on Thursday, January 6.

 

 

 

The members blocked the road for over two hours criticising the district administration for not taking steps to repair the road. Addressing the protest, Yogish Shetty Jeppu, president of Tulunada Rakshana vedike said that the condition of the Mahakali Padpu- Bolar road leading up to Mangalore city is in absolutely pathetic condition. In the past, though several demands were made to develop the road by holding various protests, the concerned department or people’s representatives did not respond to the demands, he said. Though the residents of this area have urged district administration to repair the road, their repeated appeals to the authorities have so far only fallen on deaf ears testing the patience of the people, he alleged.

In the protest, they said that Mahakali Padpu, which comes under the town municipality, is lacking from good drainage facility. Residents of this area have been leading a miserable life due to the accumulation of dirty water, leaking from some manholes caused by the choking of sewer lines in front of their houses for the past many days. Due to choked sewer lines, dirty water has accumulated not only on the streets, but also gush into their house.

 

 

 

 

 

The protestors said that nearly 46 trains are moving to Kerala through Mahakali padpu railway gate. The   repeated technical snags experienced in opening the railway gate that gets jammed frequently, has been causing problems to hundreds of road users. They pointed out that Jappinamogeru Bypass Road is an important link to reach the city from national highway 17 and that the traffic jam here also affects movement of vehicles on the national highway. They also demanded for immediate construction of over bridge at Mahakali Padpu.

Hameed Madur, Naveen Suvarna Thanir Bhavi, Savuddin Ayub, Jyothikajain, J Ibrahim Rathnakar Suvarna, raviprakash, Ravi Shetty, Nagesh Shetty, Raghu Emmekkare, Suresh Kodical, Devadas Bolar and Gafur Ullal were present at the protest.
