Two arrested in chain-snatching cases targeting elderly women in Moodbidri

Moodbidri, Sept 22, 2024: Police have arrested two suspects in connection with chain-snatching incidents targeting elderly women in Moodbidri on August 15 and near Moodumarnadu Basadi on September 2.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Hasan Habeeb Hasan, alias Chabbi, alias Chembugudde Habbi (42) and Ummar Siyaf Chiya (29), a resident of Adyadi Jodumarga in Bantwal.

The duo, riding a scooter, allegedly snatched chains from 70-year-old Nirmala Pandit in Moodbidri and 82-year-old Prema near Moodumarnadu Basadi. The stolen chains weighed 24 grams and three sovereigns, respectively.

Hasan Habeeb has a history of involvement in 44 criminal cases across various police stations and has 15 arrest warrants issued against him for failing to appear in court. Ummar Siyaf is also facing charges in an attempted murder case registered at Bantwal police station.

The operation to apprehend the suspects was led by Moodbidri CI Sandesh P G, under the supervision of City Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal, DCP Siddhartha Goyal, DCP Dinesh Kumar, and ACP Srikant K.
